Ireq Savage – 1punch (2022)

There are times when you need music that you can just unleash to. Fortunately, Ireq Savage has just the song to help you out with ‘1punch’. Merge some heavy tones from metal and punk with a few yells of rap rock, he has you rocking out to the sound while unleashing all your pent-up frustration.

Inspired by a beat he received, he instantly knew he wanted to yell out to the sound while hitting on something a little heavy. With lyrics that came together while he was driving, he quickly created a single that lets you get everything off your chest and feel the freedom that comes after. Working with producer Areo, he furthers his musicality while not letting anyone hold him back.

‘1punch’ slowly builds with progressive chords and tittering tones. This moves directly to the deep beats that slap against your senses and get your entire body to bop with their movement. It is a very interesting melody that carefully moves you forward through the track and the emotions of the vocals. There are elements of trap in the low levels of the melody that are enhanced by the push of the higher levels. It is a relatively stripped back melody that uses some powerful elements to drive the music with just the right touch of heaviness. All of this creates a great vibe that allows you to really soak up the important message that has been woven into the vocals and lyrics.

As the tones of the melody lead you into the track, Ireq Savage unleashes his frustration and emotion through the light yells of the opening. This drops into a smoother rap-rock movement that hits out at the people who are always talking about what you are doing. There is a rather freeing movement to his performance as he acknowledges that people are always going to talk about what you are doing and that you need to move away from caring. This is a message that most of us need to hear at some point and helps us shake the shackles that the opinions of others place on our creativity. The movement of his performance, from the yells of freedom, to the light bop of rap-rock, really showcases the versatility of his sound.

Ireq Savage is helping us all move on from the opinions of others, while unleashing some frustration with the punchy tones of ‘1punch’. While the melody plays less of a role than the vocals, it does create the bopping movement that drives you into the punch of the vocals. His performance is nuanced as he moves from yelling to rap with seamless ease.
