Lil’ Mike – Shuryo (2026)

Unafraid to delve into the grittier, darker, more devastating areas of reality, singer-songwriter Lil’ Mike “tackles the darkest corners of society through his music”. This is our introduction to Lil’ Mike, but his powerful music has been reaching audiences since 2024’s ‘The Halloween Party’ – at least according to his Spotify. Positioning himself as a “modern-day demon hunter – drawing inspiration from manga”, France-based Lil’ Mike uses his music for more than just a good beat and contagious vocals, he prompts discussion and promotes responsibility of serious issues, particularly child trafficking. Join us as we take our first step with Lil’ Mike’s single, ‘Shuryo’.

Taken from his recent EP, HotDamn – an album that focuses on fighting for your principles, beliefs and freedom – ‘Shuryo’ is the fight song you’ll have playing as you stand up and pump your fist in the air. Lil’ Mike explains:

“The HotDamn EP is mostly about fighting for your rights, goals and freedom; ‘Shuryo’ does not make an exception to this rule. The fight here is against powered people trying to control the youngest ones, in the music industry or life in general… ‘Shuryo’ is aiming directly at the child trafficking business going on in the world. I think it’s important to address this when you can.”

Produced by Tom Adamides, ‘Shuryo’ drag you back to the 1990s rap/hip-hop scene with old-school feelings of Dr Dre and TuPac, but the futuristic flair offers an edgy contemporariness to the single. Wandering across a pulsating beat, shimmer of synths add lightness to the track. However, while these synths seem to add a gleam of hope to the track, it’s forceful rap melody hits you between the eyes with a soul-stirring oomph of reality. I find the end particularly interesting as it lifts the mood with childish pop tones before an abrupt halt – a link to the theme perhaps?

In addition to the single, Lil’ Mike released an official music video for ‘Shuryo’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
