Following the simple idea that electronic music has soul, producer Paul Cullen continues offering soulful, funky, groove-laden melodies for audiences. A veteran musician, Cullen made his presence known at the forefront of the nu-jazz movement with the electronic ensemble Taxi. When Taxi fell into the ashes, his fiery passion for music kept the embers burning, and Cullen found a new flame with The Natural Curve. Following the sweep of electronic-driven music plummeting you into a spiral of high-speed sound in ‘It’s Gonna Burn’, ‘Silly Girl’ opens a new chapter for The Natural Curve. Retaining the synth-laden foundation with bold beats pulsating across the melody, ‘Silly Girl’ holds you with an electronic kick. However, a smattering of piano and keyboards caress the tune, leaning toward a pop vibe with an organic flavour. Then again, while there is a tip of contemporary pop fluttering in the track, ‘Silly Girl’ proves that electronic music has soul in its blend of funk, jazz and old-school soul.
The melody embraces a funkadelic groove with disco balls glittering atop a multicoloured dance floor that you immediately find yourself enjoying; yet, it is the vocals that polish off the scene. Joined by 20-year-old singer Liberty Taylor, ‘Silly Girl’ brims with warmth and tenderness, but with a teasing trill that gives you a push to wiggle your hips a little more. Sincere, powerful, and a great song to have some fun with, ‘Silly Girl’ is a brilliant introduction to The Natural Curve.
