Matt DeAngelis – Helpless To The Fire (2026)

With songs exploring the uncertainty, confusion and fear of living in a world of unrest and hypocrisy, singer-songwriter Matt DeAngelis asks those questions we might avoid, unpacks those emotions that might be left alone, and shares these intimate moments with resonating light. Joined by his band – Billy Kennedy (guitar), Eric Bishop (bass) and Cole Herudek (drums and percussion) – the US-based artist saunters across the realms of rock in his moving melodies. The latest addition to his discography is the single, ‘Helpless To The Fire’.

His previous single, ‘Livin’ It’, was penned during the Covid-19 pandemic and aimed to convey the “fearful and unknown world we continue to live in…”, but even in the darkness, he expressed a lightness suggesting that while the future is uncertain, there is still hope if living through a higher power. With ‘Helpless To The Fire’, DeAngelis continues to share this message and intimate belief. He explains:

“’Helpless To The Fire’ is a song written about the idea that in the end every material possession we own will no longer exist and we will only have God to turn to. We are all helpless to an impending fire that will destroy the evil in the world in time… so I feel we should focus less on what we can hold in our hands and more on what we can’t necessarily see… The song is an evolution and reflection of a universal concept where fire is the ultimate destruction, and our only escape is hope in a higher power.”

Co-produced by Matt DeAngelis, John DeAngelis and Billy Kennedy, ‘Helpless To The Fire’ turns to a classic rock tone with a soaring guitar, bass, and almost anchoring drums. While the first moments seem simplistic and bare, the song builds into a rich, full-bodied message of sonic hope. For me, it is the interspersed horns and piano that give it a kick; however, the clip of orchestral strings meshed in a rugged rock vibe makes the tune anthemic.
