The Pixel Rain – Last (2026)
Inspired by the ”…industrial edge of bands like Nine Inch Nails and Rammstein, the synth-pop vibes of Depeche Mode or New Order, and the post-punk ethics of Joy Division…”, UK-based The Pixel Rain find that balance and teeter across the space between electronic, organic, heavy, and softer musicality. The divergence and alternative attitude of The Pixel Rain’s sound is intriguing; however, there is one element that remains constant – the delving into human experience. Releasing their self-titled debut EP in 2023, the band have turned heads with their music for the past few years. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Last’.
Driven by the frontman Áron Siegler, The Pixel Rain chose to step away from their distinctive sound in ‘Last’. As a pivotal turn of their style, Siegler notes, ”Musically, I wanted to change up the usual workflow a bit, and turn to a more guitar-driven sound.” Recorded and produced by István Simon and Dexter Krenal, ‘Last’ is still a sonic experience rather than a song. Yet, unlike ‘Behind The Wheel’ and ‘Postmodern Soul’, it is not a hazy sweep of smoky post-punk engulfing you, but something with more clarity and deliberation – a journey along a dark sonic street with imps at the ready.
Combining crashing drums with shimmering synths and a powerful guitar sitting at the forefront, ‘Last’ leans toward rock with the tinges of post-punk glistening beneath. Hard, forceful and bold, the track stomps forward; but, within the confident steps, there is a lilt of vulnerability, melancholy and darkness. When speaking of ‘Last’, Siegler explains, “’Last’ was born from my scorn for modern-day authority figures as I was picturing a world that these kinds of people are gonna leave behind.”
Taken from The Pixel Rain’s upcoming album, A Sense Of Danger, ‘Last’ makes a lasting impression. I am eager to hear more from The Pixel Rain.
In addition to the single, The Pixel Rain released an official music video for ‘Last’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
