The U Club – Dirty Laundry (2020)

In 2017, a few university students came together to form an indie-rock group. This could be any group, but I’m speaking about the London-based foursome The U Club. Combining their different influences and relationship with music, multi-instrumentalists Emma, Callum, Javi and Jack create a rich and original sound. With their engaging and charismatic performances, The U Club quickly gained a reputation of unforgettable shows among a growing fanbase. Taking their music from stages to streaming, The U Club released the single ‘Dirty Laundry’.

Opting for a completely DIY approach in music production, ‘Dirty Laundry’ was recorded at a home studio (also known as the band member’s bedroom) in 2020. The first of three planned single releases, ‘Dirty Laundry’ is a combination of witty lyricism and soothing instrumentation wrapped up in a harmonic and melodic package.

What really captures my interest in ‘Dirty Laundry’ is Emma’s vocals. Effortlessly mingling with steady guitars and drums, Emma has a haunting quality to her voice. Reminiscent of Dido and Annie Lennox, Emma captures your interest as she navigates this intoxicating song. Toe-tapping and straightforward, but with a twinge of wistfulness, The U Club share an anthemic single made for both small and large venues. I cannot wait to hear more from this endearing group.
