The Wrong Man – Starship (2026)

The brainchild of singer-songwriter Jonathan Gibbon, The Wrong Man is a ”…London-based melodic indie project” that has just emerged on the music scene. At the moment, I only have his debut single, ‘Starship’, as an introduction to The Wrong Man; however, debuts are always incredibly important as they tell us what The Wrong Man is all about, what he’s bringing to the table, and if we’re keen on paying more attention to possible later releases. Join us as we take a tentative step into The Wrong Man’s musical adventure with ‘Starship’.

The first of four singles to be released later this year – ‘Starship’, ‘Cassette Compilations’, ‘Return To Silence’ and ‘Sleeping Pills’ – the debut single can be described as eclectic. A strong rub of old-school indie-rock and indie-pop bands like Radiohead, Dodgy, and even a slice of The Beatles, ‘Starship’ has a retro feel, yet there is a contemporary edginess in the cinematic soundscape. Not necessarily familiar or known, but certainly oozing with a sense of comfort, The Wrong Man introduces himself with a warm, charming few minutes of music.

Yes, easy to listen to with a sweet embrace of music, ‘Starship’ can be the song you turn up while you potter about in your kitchen making a cup of tea or preparing dinner; you sing along like it’s an old tune you love. Then again, while the drums beat in tune with the soaring guitars and a steady bass, eclectic obscurity wavers across a hum of synths, so you find your footing but know there’s a sonic prod keeping you on your toes.

My overall opinion of The Wrong Man and ‘Starship’? A fun blast into his musical journey, this single has cleared away some of the Monday blues. My only hope is that ‘Starship’ isn’t The Wrong Man hitting its musical peak. Here’s looking forward to the new singles.
