To Hell With Tradition – The Baton (2022)

The brainchild of singer-songwriter Achim Hofmeyer, To Hell With Tradition is a poignant merging of intense internal discourse set in an alternative rock soundscape. Formed in 2019, the Germany-based multi-instrumentalist found himself moving from a world dictated by external expectations to one of self-growth wrapped in a fantastic musical package. Featured on Roadie Music, Less Than 1000 Followers, Lost In The Manner, Eat This Rock, Punk Head and various playlists, To Hell With Tradition is reaching audiences across the globe. The latest addition to his critically acclaimed discography is ‘The Baton’.

Hot on the heels of his single ‘Paper Cuts’, To Hell With Tradition releases his indie-rock meets pop-rock song with a tinge of alternative pop in the mixture. Difficult to define, ‘The Baton’ has a soft, soothing, catchy chorus; however, it belies a darker, more melancholic and hard-hitting arrangement of keyboards, drums and guitar. ‘The Baton’ is experimental, eclectic and showcases great obscurity in its cinematic soundscape. Yet, this seems nothing more than apt considering the poignant theme of the track.

A metamorphic revolutionary in the indie music scene, To Hell With Tradition expresses his contemplative internal discourse in a moving and intoxicating way. Constantly creating coherent concept albums, ‘The Baton’ is taken off his upcoming album Blurred. Hofmeyer shares that Blurred and the preceding singles explore issues of conflict and contemplation. He explains that “whilst consistently progressing on the hauntingly impulsive musical path…exploring it with increasing confidence, the deep contemplation on perceived duality expressed as an intense, dialogic inner discourse…”

In addition to the single, To Hell With Tradition released an official music video for ‘The Baton’. You can view it below or on his official YouTube channel.
