Track of the Day: Aza Brown – Wasting Away (2023)

I am confident in saying that over the past few years, the world has changed completely. Uncertainty was always an issue in life, but the Covid-19 pandemic (along with the post-pandemic confusion) hit the uppermost bars in the “oh, what the hell” scale. The lockdowns were entertaining as you walked around in your pyjamas all day and binge-watched Netflix but that came to an end as stress levels soared. For Aza Brown, however, that period was a time of spiritual resolution, self-discovery and realising what really matters in life.

From his debut release ‘Pure Water’ in 2021 to the remix EP of his single ‘Sticky Situations’, Aza Brown has worked with renowned Arctic Monkeys producer Alan Smythe, performed at festivals (Rock The Boat Cruise and F1 British Grand Prix), featured on numerous publications (Sinusoidal Music, Music For All, Edgar Allan Poets), and was even endorsed by his celebrity fan Robert Carlyle. Come with us as we see (or rather hear) why international audiences are so excited about Brown’s music.

Following the Sticky Remixes, Vol. 2, Aza Brown releases his new single ‘Wasting Away’. When people fell into Covid hysteria, Brown took off on his bike to clear his head and find some solace on the open road. ‘Wasting Away’ touches on the internal dialogue of this period filled with certainty, clarity and a full appreciation of his unwavering love for his girlfriend.

Interestingly, while the single is entitled ‘Wasting Away’, it has nothing to do with feeling your life is wasting away; in fact, it is completely contrary with its high-paced joviality and infectious cheer. Catchy power-pop bops ooze from the heartfelt pop single with hints toward The Beach Boys and The Beatles. Harmonic and laidback, Brown’s dulcet vocals match a soothing guitar in a chilled-out groove.

In addition to the single, Aza Brown released an official music video for ‘Wasting Away’. You can view it below or via Brown’s official YouTube channel.
