Track of the Day: M3G – De-Anchored (2026)

With a sugary sweet smile that makes you want to giggle, bright eyes that make you grin, and the overall demeanour of a young, happy, bubbly young lady who you just know is a really nice person, M3G is the breath of fresh air on a dreary day. Hailing from the South West of England, M3G began performing at open mics in 2021, and since then has built a strong following playing at festivals, supporting acts like Gaz Brookfield, and recording moving melodies. In 2023, she released her debut single ‘The Cycle’, and since then continues to turn heads, and today our head is turned. Join us as we delve into her new single, ‘De-Anchored’.

Following her 2025 single ‘Rooks’ – the first professional recording leading toward a potential full album – ‘De-Anchored’ is a solid folk song, but there is a contemporary folk-pop edge weaving through the vintage folk tone. Recorded and produced by Phil Cooper, with mastering by Pete Maher, ‘De-Anchored’ is an acoustic guitar-driven tune with a bare-bones sentimentality. Then again, as in the duality of retro with modern leanings, the track offers a wave of kaleidoscopic music. It’s like you’re being sucked into a whirlpool with Cooper’s bass sliding along M3G’s guitar in tumultuous, breath-taking walls of sound.

Interestingly, or perhaps amusingly, the song’s title is ‘De-Anchored ’, alluding to the loss of control and a sense of upheaval. However, while this rocking emotion exists, M3G’s vocals hold you close, giving you a hand to grab in a sonic abyss. Vulnerability and raw human fragility press against you, yet an empowering sense of surety and self-discovery twinkles like fairies in the waves. M3G explains:

“’De-Anchored’ is inspired by the ocean and it’s about losing one’s sense of self and discovering they are not the person they thought they were. Being lost at sea, like a ship that has lost the anchor of their sense of self.”

Sincere, sentimental and honest, M3G has drawn me in with ‘De-Anchored’, and I’m so pleased. Highly recommended!!
