Hailing from Saudi Arabia, AK.T is a musician who engulfs you in a weave of contemporary classical music. Existing in a realm of suspension between cinematic ambience and structural cohesion, AK.T shares music that is delicate, immersive, but almost tangible in its fragility. One of the tracks off AK.T’s debut EP, Specters, ‘An Unseen Waltz’ is exactly what it says on the tin: an unseen waltz. While the single is not as off-kilter as ‘Of Order And Chaos’ or as sinister as ‘Thy Scarlet Dagger’ – both tracks on Specters – ‘An Unseen Waltz’ does retain an element of obscurity and mischief in the composition. Opening with sincerity, but quickly evolving into a dance of deviousness and fragile elegance, ‘An Unseen Waltz’ embraces duality but entwines everything in a rhythmic whole.
No one moment truly stands out for me. A wave of music seems to rush from AK.T’s piano, dipping and diving, twirling and teetering, rambunctious mischief of imps in the background with fluttering fairies dancing about in glittering glory. Up and down, step and pause, warm and cool, and confident while vulnerable, ‘An Unseen Waltz’ hits every emotion with its pauses, bursts, tremulous notes, and bold chords.
While its sophistication and maturity might lean toward a thought-out, premeditated, and well-formed composition, the truth is ‘An Unseen Waltz’ is a track of improvisation wound with serendipitous effect. Born “..during long, silent nights, the track captured a fragile and atmospheric space where time seemed to stretch and soften. Composed in solitude, the piece emerged not through intention, but through repetition and presence… hours spent at the piano, where each note shaped the passage of time almost unnoticed.”
I’ll admit, I don’t often hit the play button on classical playlists, but now and then, classical compositions are exactly what you need. AK.T’s ‘An Unseen Waltz’ is the refreshing breath of air and delves into your imagination, removing mundane dullness and replacing it with an intriguing soundtrack.
