Catlea – Someone’s Got To (2026)
Unafraid to stand up, raise their hand, and unabashedly exclaim the need for self-improvement, singer-songwriter Catlea (they/them) holds people’s hands, offering acceptance, acknowledgement, and solace when you think you’re pretty much all on your own in a bubble of fear, frustration and turmoil. Delving into those intimate, emotional, sometimes painful realms of inner conflict and mental health can be difficult; however, Catlea’s always eager to bring the bad to a good light. The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Someone’s Got To’.
Just as Catlea unpacks fragility, vulnerability and self-empowerment, ‘Someone’s Got To’ follows the arc of self-discovery, healing and change from its inception to completion. Catlea explains, “When I originally wrote the song, it wasn’t written with the intention of getting better; it was more of a hopeful thing; an acknowledgement that I needed to love myself more and take better care of myself because I wasn’t doing that at the time.”
Then the moment of collapse after acknowledgement, leaving the song hanging. They continue, “We tried to record it, and it just wasn’t working. I messed up the session because I was drunk when I should have been working. I remember collapsing on the floor and crying.” From there, Catlea faced the pivotal point of change, leaving toxicity behind and embracing enlightenment. They share, “Cosmically, it felt like ‘Someone’s Got To’ wasn’t allowed to exist until it was true. There’s a poetic arc to the song that is comforting now… on that I hope inspires others.”
Produced at Room To Studio in Barcelona with Jason Boshoff, ‘Someone’s Got To’ shifts from the heavier pop beats of ‘Summer’s Done’ to a softer, gentler, indie-pop tune. Melodically, the song explores the stages of grief, opening with Oscar Garcia-Bragado’s bass tip-toeing along before Roni Seller’s strings slither in; a slither turning into a soaring breath of life. Garcia-Bragado’s guitar seems to carry you on silvery wings, while Boshoff’s piano peeps from behind the veil with a hopeful grin. The violin brings you down at the end of the song, with Catlea’s gentle vocals affirming that “if you don’t need me, then I will / Someone’s got to do it.”
