Giovanni Blue – Out On The Moon (2021)

After years of hibernation, John Geel is back on the music scene with his solo project Giovanni Blue. Performing with several bands in his youth, Geel has a diverse musical experience combined in his genre-defying solo sound. Born and bred in The Netherlands, the multi-instrumentalist shares intimate lyrics over soul-stirring melodies. Following his critically acclaimed 2018 album Time Will Tell, Geel releases his highly anticipated soul meets jazz album Moments. We want to introduce you to Giovanni Blue with the single ‘Out On The Moon’.

Featured on blogs and online radio stations, including iHeart Radio, Giovanni Blue is reaching an international audience with his heart-melting sound. Adopting an acoustic-inspired style, ‘Out On The Moon’ is a soulful track with moving melodies. While the piano-driven single has a richness of its own with the interspersed sax adding a specific jazzy robustness, it is the harmonic vocals that add sophistication to the spine-chilling track.

Collaborating with NINA, Moments has a soul-stirring quality as Wood’s vocals soar atop the emotive melody. Reminiscent of Florence + The Machine, ‘Out On The Moon’ is a cascade of harmonic layers slowly captivating you with the heartfelt sound. Touching on experiences of frustration, isolation and disconnection felt during this pandemic, Giovanni Blue engages with his listener making you feel a little less alone. The witty lyricism promotes the connection between families and friends despite lockdown regulations; however, the elegant execution of the lyrics makes you feel a connection rather than just consider it as part of the song.

Overall, I really enjoy the track. It’s inspiring, encouraging and leaves a lingering sense of empowerment.
