Hybrid Kid – Fallout (2021)

From their single ‘Freeze Frame‘ to ‘Coming Round Again‘, UK rockers Hybrid Kid are constantly on our radar. Not that I mind at all, it’s always grand to have something good to listen to. Nodding to the sounds of 80s punk, 90s grunge and contemporary alternative/indie-rock, Danny (vocals and guitar), Tim (bass) and Fabio (drums) bring a unique edge to their music. Gaining a cult following across the globe, these international performers have a reputation for engaging, enthusiastic and hard-hitting sounds. The latest addition to their discography is ‘Fallout’.

Described by Tom Robinson (BBC 6Music) as “…bloomin’ fantastic”, the lads are certainly charming critics; however, will they charm us with ‘Fallout’? Following the eclectic ‘Endless’, Hybrid Kid adopts a more upbeat tone in the latest track. Unlike ‘Endless’, the single does not show a distinctive movement from one genre to the other but that doesn’t mean they’ve lost their edge. In fact, the focused rock-infused single indicates an evolution and honing in Hybrid Kid’s sound directing it in the best way possible.

A guitar-driven single, ‘Fallout’ boasts several crescendos into catchy choruses and hard-hitting guitar riffs. Tim and Danny’s skills are duly noted but Fabio isn’t far behind. The crashing drums enhance the intensity of the track with a harmonic melodic flow. Once again, the brashness of Danny’s vocals incorporates a grittier, grungier quality contributing to the kaleidoscopic soundscape.

Overall, I love the song. Interweaving the vocal prowess of Ozzy Osbourne with The Ramones, Hybrid Kid is, as Robinson put it, “…bloomin’ fantastic.”
