Lost Lot – Ready to Hide (2026)
Inspired by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Brandi Carlile and Bruce Springsteen, UK-based Lost Lot binds vintage sounds with original writing and a hard-hitting kick of real oomph to make them memorable. Not entirely in the Americana realm, but not necessarily falling into the folk or indie-rock side of things, Lost Lot’s music binds rock and folk, but with the rub of a country twang. This isn’t our introduction to Lost Lot, but listening to each single is like hearing the artist for the first time; comfortable familiarity met by bold…um, newness (for lack of a better word). The latest addition to their discography is the single, ‘Ready To Ride’.
Following the well-received single ‘Noah’, ‘Ready To Ride’ is a sweep of crashing drums, a bold bass, soaring guitars, and fluttering keyboards peeping from the background. Interestingly, while the track has its own brash blast of forceful “hit you between the eyes” rock, it is a harmonic tune to hold you in a warm hug. Ben Lackenby’s drums and Scott Dolan’s bass might wash about the sonic whirlpool, but there is an anchoring quality to their deep tones. James Mackay’s guitar scorches while still settling the music with a gruff release. For me, however, it is Matt Dunbar’s vocals that steal the show – vulnerable but confident, and that comfortable hug from a dear friend.
Recorded and produced by Ben Squires and Matt Dunbar, with mixing by Dunbar and Matt Dewar and mastering by Nick Sheffield, ‘Ready To Hide’ finds the line between sophisticated elegance and gritty innocence. Rich and weighty, filled with soothing sounds and tremulous tones. For me, however, its weightiness is enhanced as it perfectly aligns with the song’s theme: creating solace within a world of uncertainty – a need to hide.
Sincere, sentimental and touching, ‘Ready To Hide’ will resonate with audiences lyrically and bring deeper intimacy to the melody. Highly recommended!
