Michellar – Do We Love Us (2026)
As much as falling in love can be enthralling, despite its complexities and how you often find yourself entirely vulnerable, it is also important to check those emotions. In certain cases, it might not be the best idea to lay yourself at the altar of love; in some cases, mostly professional ones, remaining objective is key. This is what Michellar’s new single, ‘Do We Love Us’, is all about… well, sort of.
Drawing from the Shakespearean quote, “When I saw you, I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew it”, ‘Do We Love Us’ is about a crush. It is about that moment when you lose yourself in the hope of love, but probably know it’s not going to happen. When discussing ‘Do We Love Us’, singer-songwriter Michellar explains:
“The song’s backstory is influenced by a crush on a collaborator… Working with collaborators, there is always a chance of getting too close because one’s vulnerabilities are open to accept certain emotions. A lot of times, restraint needs to be practised, and the only way to release that emotion is through a song. So, that is why I wrote this song.”
Following her 2026 EP, FAITHFUL, ‘Do We Love Us’ is an internationally recorded and produced single spanning two continents. Recorded in the USA by Michellar, then mixed, mastered and produced in Romania by Marius Alexandru, the single showcases the beauty, power, and sophistication of collaboration.
Beginning as a slower song with a guitar picking pattern, ‘Do We Love Us’ had the tranguility and barebones intimacy of a pop song, and while the BPM was turned up, a soft, soothing charm continues across the single. A keyboard offers an anchoring set of bold beats, with drums kicking in the background. Well-layered and textured, further synths shiver in the tune, while Michellar’s vocals dance atop the melody with twinkling delicacy.
In previous works, Michellar addresses the profound, poignant intricacies of relationships, but ‘Do We Love Us’ is more fun and light-hearted than deep. A breath of joyful whimsy bound by a tale of romance. This song is one to have in the background, to listen to when you’re feeling a little down, and to enjoy when the day becomes too mundane.
