OpCritical – Liar Liar (2026)

Formed as a desperate, well, maybe not desperate, but very much needed response to the exploitative, manipulative, and overpowering oligarchs of today, OpCritical uses music to inspire change across the globe. From the idea of revolution and need for change in an uncertain, chaotic world, OpCritical offers fire, heart and integrity in their melodies. Now, no one knows who’s behind the music, but does that really matter? We came across the group earlier this year with ‘Doing Fine’ – a social commentary on societal conformity. Today, we take a look (or rather a listen) to their recent release, ‘Liar Liar’.

Ever heard the phrase, “liar, liar, pants on fire”? That’s more or less what ‘Liar Liar’ is all about. It’s about the people in power promising one thing but never delivering, at least for positive societal change. OpCritical explain: “We have all seen the destructive conduct of oligarchs around the world who amass great wealth and power but refuse to use them to help society. So, we are calling out those oligarchs and urging citizens to engage in peaceful protests and civic action to hold them accountable.”

In one way, ‘Liar Liar’ reminds me of American band Mindless Self Indulgence; a smash of electronica, punk, metal, hardcore hip hop, industrial and alternative rock-flooded melodies. Following the single ‘USA’, OpCritical’s new single oscillates from heavy alternative rock to powerful punk with electronic tinges and a pop-punk chaser – all in a matter of seconds. The crashing drums catch you in a breath-taking burst, then the bass climbs along with determination. Keyboards add a twinkling effect, and the guitars twirl around your body, prompting a bit of a crazed, frenetic dance.

Chaotic and brash, but with rich vocals, ‘Liar Liar’s melody is in perfect alignment with the frantic, ferocious confusion of living in a “democratic” world run by oligarchs. If you didn’t feel a passion for revolution before ‘Liar Liar’, then you definitely will afterwards.

In addition to the single, OpCritical released an official music video for ‘Liar Liar’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
