That Hidden Promise – Lifeform (2026)
A few years back, six to be precise, The Other Side Reviews (that’s us!) spoke with singer-songwriter Wayne Lee about his solo project, That Hidden Promise. We chatted about his debut album, Who Knows Now, creative processes, and much more. Three years later, after releasing the well-received singles ‘Some Days (I Just Can’t Stand)’ and ‘Elevate’, he went underground for three more years – not literally, underground, of course. Today, we have the honour of rediscovering That Hidden Promise as he returns from hiatus with ‘Lifeform’.
As with previous work, ‘Lifeform’ is an entirely DIY production, with UK-based Lee showcasing his production, composition, performance, and storytelling skills. The lead single from his upcoming album – set for release later this year – ‘Lifeform’ taps into the more complex, intricate areas of life, unpacking existential issues such as self-doubt, exploitation, and, well, living in a world that’s governed by “herd mentality”. Yet, instead of simply singing about the tragedies, ‘Lifeform’ is a song of resilience and empowerment, invoking the strength of people to embrace meaning and sincere connection.
Dragging us back to the days of classic rock, ‘Lifeform’ is a four-minute breath into nostalgic whispers of yesteryear. I wouldn’t compare That Hidden Promise to any artists; however, this track follows that quintessential rock band style with crashing drums, a bold bass, and a scorching guitar, leaving a fiery trail across the melody. About midway through the single, the lead guitar really comes into its own with one of those old-school solos that enhance the song’s oomph factor. It lights up the room, incites foot stomping and air guitar, and keeps the melody alive – not that the other instruments ebb into any sort of lingering frame. The end holds particular appeal for me in a sweet twinkling of a keyboard, walking out with delicate breaths of life.
‘Lifeform’ is about the systemic control of herd mentality, but its bracing freedom and exquisite roar of strength is a melodic expression of how people can, well, break free. With the promise of an upcoming album, I am eager to hear more from That Hidden Promise.
