Daddy Drwg – Black Thread (2026)

Unafraid to unpack the complexities, uncertainties, and tension of modern-day reality – both looking inward and exploring external issues – Daddy Drwg drives a strong sense of connection and relatability in his cinematic, original melodies. Hailing from Cardiff, the Welsh musician Richard Proctor began performing as Daddy Drwg (pronounced “droog”) a couple of years back, or at least he released his debut album, A Tree Called Happy. We came across him earlier this year with the single ‘Wise Guys’ – a track that exposed the damaging influence of male celebrity culture. Today, we delve into one’s inner world with his latest single, ‘Black Thread’.

Penned and produced by Daddy Drwg, with mastering by Charlie Francis, ‘Black Thread’ retains the indie-rock vibe of ‘Wise Guys’, but inserts a darker feeling to the melody. Simplistic in one way, listening to ‘Black Thread’ is like enjoying every element with its own individuality. The drums walk alongside twinkling synths, almost an anchoring feature. The guitar sauntering with its glistening charm and a beautiful classic rock riff, giving an extra oomph to the arrangement.

As I said, simplistic and barebones, with Daddy Drwg’s rich vocals leading the way and stepping along the instruments. Yet, as simple as the melody may appear, there is a sense of vulnerability, fragility and poignant melancholy to ‘Black Thread’. Daddy Drwg explains: “A dark anti-ballad centred on endurance, repetition, and psychological weight, ‘Black Thread’ was written to hold several interpretations at once. The song can be heard as a portrait of depression, the aftermath of a failed relationship, or the experiences of illness slowly taking hold…”

In addition to the single, Daddy Drwg released an official music video for ‘Black Thread’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
