Gentry Blue – Tell Them I’m Insane (2022)

Compared to the likes of Jefferson Airplane, Lindsey Stirling, Rush and Heart, US-based Gentry Blue bring old-school rock to a contemporary society. Advertising themselves as “a group which takes no prisoners…”, the foursome shows uniqueness and raw passion in their music. Unique and intriguing, The Other Side Reviews has followed Gentry Blue from their debut single ‘Downfall’ to ‘What Lies on the Other Side’ and Pyrite and Steel. Featured in numerous blogs, including Less Than 1000 Followers, Find No Enemy, Its All Indie and Indie Shark, Gentry Blue are reaching audiences on an international level. Come with us as we delve into their latest single ‘Tell Them I’m Insane’.

Produced with Grammy-winning producer Mitch Dane, ‘Tell Them I’m Insane’ takes you by the hand dragging you to the days of Rush and Heart. With the intensity of Janis Joplin, frontwoman Lydia Gentry uses her obscure vocals to create a bubble of intimate, um, obscurity. Yet, it is the pounding drums and dynamic guitars that build a kaleidoscopic foundation on which we set sail in this eclectic tune. In other words, listeners are set adrift on a hard-hitting melody while wrapped in an inimitable vocal swirl.

The harmonic melody alone can easily hypnotise you, but it is the lyricism that really makes the track profound. Written about a woman who pleads insanity after murdering her family (although this is all part of a maniacal scheme), ‘Tell Them I’m Insane’ explores the darkness within people. I would say the track is introspective, but I’m unsure whether that is an apt description. No, not introspective but certainly insightful as Gentry Blue dip into human complexity with a raw intensity. Slithering in through your ears, crawling down your spine and leaving you breathless, Gentry Blue ensnares all your senses with ‘Tell Them I’m Insane’.
